Chocolate Cake

Although i enjoyed the cake i also enjoyed the lesson plan behind it. As i listen to each group come up with reason on who gets the cake and how much i was really impressed. There were so many ways that did not even come across my mind. When Dr. Bogad ask the question the first thing that i thought of was the minorities in the class room picks last because in life they are always the one to be last regardless. I just thought that was a huge point (not just becuase i thought of it niether)

CLass Projects

Today in class i loved how we watch each group present their project. I believe that each group had a different style of presenting. That is a better why of learning some students learn better by listening, others learn better by visual and other by interracting. I think that all 3 groups did a excellent job and i could see that each group worked really hard

Continuation of white privilege

As i sit here and think i always seem to come bck to this subject and yes some may say it is becuase i am a MINORITY and you know what your RIGHT. some may say i am cocky or ignorant for allowing this subject to continue within my mind once the class discussion is over. guess what your RIGHT. you want to know why i say they are right is because THEY HAVE NOT WALED IN MY SHOES, THEY HAVE NOT SAT IN A CLASSROOM AND FELT ALONE BECAUSE NOONE ELSE IN THE CLASSROOM LOOKED LIKE ME. But yet they get more privelege then me because they was born white. Many say white people are better than black people and do you know what i say to that...
BULLCRAP
Why are they better than me people lived in africa and becuase enviormental purpose people began to flee and when they did so the skin color was not as dark becuase they was lacking SUN. Thats how they became the skin color white. I have always asked myself this question, WHO EVER IN THEIR RIGHT MIND SAID WHITE WAS RIGHT AND BLACK WAS WRONG? When technically all humans are black. People do not understand the feeling of being black and walking into a classroom and there is not one person that looks like you unless you are an miniority. tim wise expressed how he did not even have to try out to be the led player in a Romeo and Juliet he just walked into auditions and told his teacher he wanted the part and nect thing he was named the person to play romeo and juliet. All while a black student had to try out memorize lines and still did not get the part all because the color of their skin. Thats why now when i notice White Privilege i do not hold my toungue for nothing.

Johnson What Can We Do

Johnson argues that "removing what silences them and stands in their way can tap an enormous potential of energy for change." In my opinion and actually the meaning behind this arguement is that the poeple who feel "non existent" in the world need to become more "EXISTENT" because their voice will make a difference and will allow them to have the same privelege as people who are existent such as the white women and men.
One qoute that i found extremely powerful throughtout this article was:
"Difference takes many forms, but the most important are those characteristics that are difficult or impossibleto change and that other people think they can identify just by looking at someone."
The reason why i chose this qoute was because people identify with other people based upon the color of their skin and not by their personality. This is very upsetting because that means people of color only receive the same view point of those of color and the same idea of white people. The idea should be that people should interact with other people so they can recieve a diferrent point of view. change comes with the fact that people are willing to go out and recieve other peoples opinion and respect it. With that change people will not only identify with people by just looking at them. Example when ever me and my two white friends walk into the cafeteria at school people look at us becuase we will sit on the "miniority side" but yet they are not people of color. Im not going to lie i tend to this as well because i sit with the people that i identify with and i do not try to go and socialize with people who do not look like me. But that is a change that i am willing to make.

Citizenship in School

As i read this article i was astonished. I am not going to lie i had to read this over and over because so many parts of this relates to me. First Kliewer argues that all humans have to get a long we are all human no matter how we may look or act. I agree and i can relate this to Martin Luther King theory "all men are created equal" and that is a proven fact. Humans should not treat people no different becuase the way the look. I feel as though people should treat people the way the would want to be treated. Throughout reading this entire article the one quote i found extremely important and the qoute that made me realize what this whole article was about was
"Colleen Madison agreed with Shayne that no child was inherently an intellectual burden to a classroom; in fact, she argued, each student contributed a unique and potential valuable dimension to the web of relationships that formed a school community."
The reason why i said this qoute was beyond the best qoute she could have ever used was because if the school first teaches the students to accept everyone for how they look and how the act, we will have a world full of peace. If people do not interact with others then they limit theirselves of learning about other people and maybe the personal background. If people of different colors and abilities work together within a work field it would make the work place easier and productive because all employees will be able to communicate with each other.

Anyon and Oakes

First i would like to say... Thankyou to all my classmates and Dr. Bogad becuase i was really amazed and disappointed in myself that i did not take this paper that was handed out in class as an insult. Im not going to lie i felt as though the paper that was handed out was a better way for students to really understand and grasp the concept of the material. Even attending Times 2 i thought this way was a better why in helping students because in my science class we did alot of didos but in my english class it was totally different always essays, group discussion, and short essays. experiencing this made me realize how different lower class people are treated with all aspect in life. From work to education, to staus in life. After reading both of these articles i was just shocked. I can not believe that society does this. I strongly believe that no matter what class status, disability, color of your skin, where you live everyone SHOULD RECEIVE THE SAME EDUCATION. The reason why i state this is because no matter what you do education is essential to life. If society goes about teaching kids based upon everything except their age then we teach the kids to grow up with an easy life. For example Anyon states that the executive elite schools is called that because their fathers were top executives. now when i read this i sat and thought to myself. Does that make sense? The answer i came up with was NO. Because if fathers of them students get the best treatment then what happens to the other students NOTHING and once again that is another generation that grows up in the idea of higher class is the best. Doing this workheet and didos only allow the students to retain the information and tell the teacher what he or she wants to hear. Throughout the 2 articles the main point that i received from this was that THERE IS NO INFORMATION THAT IS BEING TAUGHT. THE ONLY THING HERE IS RECALL/SEARCHING.

I am upset because many Providence Public schools are the ones who suffer the most and in my eyes it is truely unfair regardless if their parents can not do not have alot of money. Executives fathers should donate money to public schools to help educate the less fortunate students.

Continuation of Diversity event

This diversity event obtains to McIntosh's theory of White Privilege because even though the students are not aware of the idea of white privilege it is being taught to them because the staff and teachers display the idea of white privelege, because the poor kids are the "COLORED" childern while the rich kids are played by the "WHITE" childern. This shows the power that being "white" really has among our society today. Young childern are exposed to this idea of power at a very young age. This is a prime example, the play was designed by the fifth grade class but the whole school went and attended so therefore this play showed the idea of POWER that the color of your skin has.

Diversity Event

Okay for my Diversity event i went to go see my little cousins play at Henry Bernand school. This play was about a fictional character Nathalie Mcnalley who was an immigrant. She and her family was on the journey to ellis island. So as i sat there and watch this play, I wad astonished by the way they teachers had the students play the characters. I know I was supposed to be enjoying this play but after all of our class discussion i was forced to think about this. In the opening scene, they had the "rich" people aboard the ship first and as i looked i saw that all the childern playing the part of the "RICH" kids were "WHITE." Then it was time for the "poor" people to aboard the ship and when the students came out there were some "WHITE" but MANY WERE "BLACK." This really upset me becuase not only were they influencing the kids that played the poor people role but people in the audiemce such as myself, seen this as a act of racism. Now i do not want to go out and say the teachers did this on purpose but how come they could not haved the roles switch and allowed the "BLACK" students to play the role of the rich people. Another thing the student that played the role of Nathalie was again a "WHITE" student and her younger sister was played by a student that was "BLACK." But the older sister "Nathalie" will push her around and tell her what to do throughout this whole play. Understanding that in reality that is usually the way a big sister little sister relationship does work but I seen it as it was going to be obvious that a student who was "WHITE" was going to have the star role and someone that is under/below her to be like her servant someone to cater to her will be a "BLACK" student.

I loved this article. Once i started reading this article i could not put it down. This was extremely interesting becuase it allowed the mind frame of boys to think and act as women. This is a male prodiminate world where men have all the power. The idea that orenstein allows us as readers to experience the world as a prodiminately women power world really allowed me to think. THIS WOULD ACTUALLY BE NICE....... As a teacher i beleieve Ms. Logan's way of decorating her room full of women instead of male was a difference in reality. I believe that she did this because there is so much emphasis on the idea of how a gender plays a major role in society. In my socialogy class i learned so much about how the world treat women and how is praises men. The qoute that stood out and i believe that all teachers should have this qoute somewhere within their classroom. "Women are one-half of the world's people; they do two-thirds of the world's work; they earn one-tenth of the world's income; they oew one one-hundreth of the world's property." Ms. Logan's classroom is design to allow the women to be the center of the attention while the men are standing on the outside looking in. This forces women to believe they can do anything that they want. They do not have to limit theirselves just because they are born as a female. Ms. Logan wants to encourage her students that even though society potrays female to be one way is not the only way we are.
Her project was a massive shock to me bevuase i did not know that teachers could do that but more immportantly i did not know that the outcome will turn out the way it did. It is important because a female can always play the rtole of a female and male but when the table turn and a male has to become a female, it is ectremely hard for them to do. Reason for that is because why does a male have to become a female when he is already in the position of power, but for him to become a female is an slap in his face. ALL REALITY WOMEN HELP CREATE THE WORLD AND MAKE IT WHAT IT IS TODAY

ok i do not understand why my other piece did not post of so i am going to rewrite it... it might not be as good as my first one..... But i honestly like this piece i felt as though it was a little long and just because off my backround i have a very good understanding on the idea of brown vs board of education and when i was reading this i wanted to learn more... This is a very political view of this topic and i believe that, with the view being as political as it was, i was able to grasp a better understanding of this from a different view point. I do not believe there is a SPECIFIC arguement that the author was trying to convey to his readers but i did grasp the arguement that alot of thing that are sepereate ARE not equal and vice verser..... When many people hear the term Brown vs. Board of education many thoughts such as Martin or the civil rights or rosa parks but there is more to Brown vs board than that. This article is very good because there is both the good and the bads but what i was able to receive out of this is, you have to understand both sides before you can take a SPECIFIC STAND

in the service of what

Very good article, it was an article in which it oeft you always wondering what if.... they state that service learning could be for a charity of change. I was able to distinguish between both charity and change. Service Learning as a charity is more so leaning towards the giving of the community they was the word "intermediate" "giving" people may think charity as bad but it could be good as much as it could be bad. The other side was change. I see where Service Learning can be change becuase change is always welcomed and something that could better this idea..... I think of charity and change in a way such as this when they had the campaign for the presidential campaign vote or die.... Diddy was promoting change for having a black president but then again he was going out to different states and doing different activities so that many people exspecially young minorities could become more active in voting.

I WAS SO CONFUSED

OK I DID NOT LIKE THIS READING AT ALL MAYBE BECUASE IT WAS OVER SPRING BREAK OR IT WAS JUST BECAUSE I DID NOT UNDERSTAND IT..... LIKE I UNDERSTAND THE IDEA OF CHARITY AND CHANGE BUT I DONT EXACTLY UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY WAS TRYING TO CONVEY TO THEIR AUDIENCE. tHE IDEA THAT CHARITY AND CHANGE AS FAR AS THE VOTE OR DIE CAMPAIGN THAT WAS PROMOTED BY SEAN "DIDDY." AS FAR THE CHANGE GOES WAS FOR A FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE CHARITY THE IDEA OF HOW MUCH TIME AND EFFORT WAS SPENT INTO MAKING SURE EACH STATE IN THE COUNTRY UNDERSTOOD HOW IMPORTANT IT WAS FOR PEOPLE TO VOTE..... Christensen argues that the media television shows help shape and form the typical sterotype or race power among our young childern...

I agree with every little word that she says within this piece becuase , everywhere on television is a typical sterotype. In movies black people are always servants off white rich people.. I agree that this is shaping the mind frame of our younger childern because they are watching these movies and they are showing the power that different classes have.

"we are discovering the tools with which a young society is manipulated" and these tools consist of the movies and all the media that the young people are watching.

"Noone wants to admit that they've been "handled" by the media" because the fact that many people belive anything and everything that the media potrays as to be right and people allow themselves to fall into what the media has to say

Gayness

When i read this article i was a little confused by it becuase it seems like he was going all over the place so as far as the authors arguement i honestly do not understand what he specifically is trying to convey to his audience.
1. "some indivisuals.......absent normal" pg 233 i really agree with this quote becuase there is so much "WHITE PRIVILEGE" that is going around that it is ridiculous. Like for interviews many people are denied a position based upon the color of their skin while others are hired becuase they are "WHITE"
2. " One-third....... likewise high" this quote surprised me becuase i really did not know that so many "gay" people committed suicide becuase they was not accepted by society...
3."being gay is......loss respect" i do not agree with this becuase i believe that no matter what a person is, the sexuality should not make or break a person or yet allow them to lose their self respect...
i honestly believe that no matter what sexuality a persob is, they should be treated and should have the same rights as people who are "straight" because everyone is created equal

white privilege

white privilege was interesting to me because she compares to Tim Wise because she discusses what it is like to be a white person born with rights. Not because you earn the right but because you came into the world as "a white person" makes you special. That is not fair to other people who are not white because they work so hard to get what they want but it is easier for a white person to get it.
